I don't know what Jones thought about Thomas Wolfe - probably not much.

  1. That's gotta be it. O lost, indeed. Jones talked sometimes about Wolfe, in a mixed sort of way. He used to shake his head about the passage in "Look Homeward, Angel" where Wolfe describes the smell of ink on a freshly delivered newspaper. He equated some of Wolfe's more over-wrought writing with a suffering condition that Jones knew well, and referred to as "constant awareness."
